Me, my life in the UAE:

I am Shajitha Shifa, Computer engineering student at BITS Pilani and an Intern at ECS ME LLC, Dubai.

My photography journey:

I started clicking photographs during my long vacation after my 12th grade. At that time, my only aim was to get my photograph and name published in Gulf News. After getting a couple of my photographs published in Gulf news, Many FB friends and well-wishers encouraged and inspired me to learn photography and take better pictures.  I made good use of the 6 month break before joining my university to learn photography from online blogs.

My play areas with my Camera:

I Love to shoot photographs of bubbles, water drops, water splash, shadows, light painting etc. These things usually go unnoticed to our naked eye. Through photography, we can show others the beauty in these little things around us.

My outlook as a photographer:

Photography is not an expensive hobby. If you have time and interest for photography every tiny object around you becomes the subject of your photographs and even a mobile phone can be a great camera. I wish to show the society that photography is not a field only dedicated for travellers or Happy-go-lucky people.

My achievements in photography:

In 2015, I received cash prize from H.H sheikh Nahyan for best UAE flag contest’s First place winner. Another one is “3rd place for Offshore Arabia Photography contest” and the prize distribution was held at Armani Hotel in Burj Khalifa. My photographs were exhibited at Sharjah Art Foundation and City walk Dubai.  I was finalist for “Best student photographer of the year 2016” by photography live and my photographs were exhibited at Dubai World Trade Center. Recently, in May 2016, I was awarded for the 1st position at ISC-IPEF Travel and Tourism Expo 2016 conducted at ISC, Abu Dhabi by Mr. Ramesh Menon, founder Passionate photographers group.

I wish Shajitha Shifa many more success in her life journey ahead.

Welcome to read on An Inspiring Moment shared (AIMs) with ClicksandWrites – Vishnu Krishna Kumar

About his life in Abu Dhabi and passions:

I am an Engineering graduate working for an Instrumentation Company in Abu Dhabi. I am also pursuing an Executive MBA. I am also interested in music and social activities. Despite a tight schedule, I always try to take the time out to pursue my passion for photography.

My Inspiration to click and beginning of my photography journey:

I had a keen interest in Photography since child hood, watching my Dad click his heart out whenever he got a chance to. Growing up from the 90’s era of film roles to the digital phase today, I witnessed the evolution and kept myself updated on photography and imaging. I had to borrow my Dad’s modest Lumix (Panasonic) to feed my passion until the Mobile era started developing sensors to match Digi Cams. This was the time I joined college and Dad got me my first phone, the Nokia 5730 sporting a 3.2 MP AF and Carl Zeiss (Lens). A high end phone back in the days helped me further develop an eye for photography.

My Camera and how I learn:

It was not until I got my first Job that I could finally buy myself a DSLR, the Nikon D5100 and since then I have dedicated most of my free time towards photography. Learning from Youtube and practicing it in real time is how developed my skill on photography.

My interests:

Although Landscapes, Street, Portraits and Candid are my basic interests, working with PS has led to develop an interest in Abstracts and Composite photography as well.

My Gear:

Camera : NIKON D5100

Lens : Nikkor 50mm f1.8, Sigma  18-250mm f3.5-f22, Nikkor 18-55 mm f3.5-f22 & Nikkor 55-200mm f3.5-f22

Flash: Yongnuo 560 iii

I wish Vishnu Krishna Kumar many more success in his life journey ahead.

About my photography journey:

I am basically from Adoor in Kerala. By profession, I’m a microbiologist and now working as an asst. Manager – microbiology dept, Geltec healthcare, Dubai.

Photography – my passion and possession:

I love photography and it’s my passion to click the world through my third eye. I bought a digital camera in 2010 (Nikon) and started clicking on. It’s really a great feeling after reviewing each photographs. In 2012, I have changed my gear to Canon 1100D, a better SLR for beginners. I have learned and found many ways to move on.

My achievements in photography:

One of the greatest achievements I had with this gear is that, a compilation of 12 different pictures of life on a table top calendar-2014, published and printed by “Sceptre Life Skills and Mind Fitness centre”, Dubai. Another one is a “garment folio by Canary Clothing Abu Dhabi” for their online shopping site in 2014. Once Again in 2015, I got to work with AIMS institute, Abudhabi for their Graduation ceremony of the first batch Business management students. Later in the mid of 2015, I bought a high end gear from Canon. That’s my ever favourite 7D Mark II. I’ll be going on clicking till my last breath. The first achievement with this gear is that, “celebrity photoshoot at Indian film awards 2016 by Flowers TV, at Sharjah” and one of the pictures was selected for an article about the film actor Indrans in social media by “both Malayalam movie ratings and AFX movie club”. And now in May 2016, one another picture was taken into consideration by Mr. Ramesh Menon, founder Passionate photographers group and it was awarded for the 3rd position at ISC-IPEF Travel and Tourism Expo 2016 conducted at ISC, Abudhabi.

My guidance to fellow photographers:

I am still learning and I will be a learner till the end. Sometimes I may regret for my core profession. Because I will have to find time for my ancillary profession. If Photography would have been my core, there is no matter I would get time all the way from sunrise to the dark night. Best wishes to all my fellow photographers who are born to click the beauty of this amazing world through their lenses. Keep shooting.

Vijay Kumar and his Passion about Photography

I am a commerce graduate and working for a shipping company in Dubai. I’m a hobbyist photographer as well.

About my photography journey:

It’s just from last 3 years when I bought my first DSLR I have been so fanatic about this wonderful art of photography. At that time I didn’t knew what a DX or FX gear was. I just went for the best DSLR that I could afford at that time and am very happy to have gone for NIKON D5200 It’s a marvellous gear to start off. For me nothing is cheap or low graded as long as you learn to use it to its full potential and get the best out of it. Whatever small knowledge I have gained on this vast subject has all been from web/internet/tutorials and still learning. And am convinced it’s not all about just reading the web or watching tutorials or attending any course. It’s all about going out on the field and trying your shots and experimenting with your gear.

My experiments and my models

At home my role model is my wife who has always encouraged me and of course my 15 months daughter who sometimes get fed up and covers her face J when I approach her with my gear.

What I look at when I click:

I respect the basics like composition, rule of thirds, Framing, sharpness, etc. etc. and am still a novice but I absolutely don’t mind breaking the rules sometimes as it’s all about the MOMENT as long you have captured it and  that captured image, story-tells by itself.

My dream Camera:

I have been dreaming of owning a FX Nikon D750 ever since I heard about its launch and its specs. After a long wait I managed to add D750 to my Kit couple of months back. Haven’t got much chance to experiment with it though.

My accessories:

Gear : NIKON D5200 & NIKON D750

DX Lens : Nikkor 35mm F1.8, Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4, Sigma 50-150mm F2.8,

FX Lens : Nikkor 85mm 1.8, Nikkor 50mm 1.8, Tamron 70-300mm F4-5.6 and latest added telephoto Sigma 150-600mm

I wish Vijay Kumar many more success in his life journey ahead.

Mind Speaks : Life As I See

30051967 - Photo Speaks - Life as I see.jpgLife As I See

I was scanning my archives for a set of old photos and suddenly this particular photo came up. It was from a recent series of click that I had made while visiting a village close to Whitefield in Bangalore. The house reminded me of my college days in Madras. A one bed room sharing accommodation that me and my friends took. It was a very small facility with bathroom, kitchen, our beds, study everything combined and congested into the small space that was available. Even with all the limitations,  it was a luxury for us and of course many. Life during that time, we made it as lively as possible. During class time we studied, but during evenings we did not miss out on any enjoyment opportunities that either came on our way or we created. Cycling, biking, movies, long rides… so many things done during those days where brought back with one look at this house in a totally dilapidated condition. It was serious business as well as fun to meet our limited budget and stay outside the hostel and live a life King Size, as the famous tobacco ad during those time promoted!

Life goes on!

A Passionate Photographers Friday Morning

A friday morning

Friday morning for most of the expats are time to sleep long and wake up late. However, for some of us, it is another morning to use efficiently and effectively for community service and passion.

Early morning food preparation for participating in the food distribution project and then off to distribute it. This morning, I thought, why not combine it with one of my favorite activities, i.e cycling.

No second thoughts. Off without any delay on my cycle. How can I go anywhere, without my camera. Obviously, it was with me when I started to ride.

Abu Dhabi, on a Friday morning is really quite and beautiful to capture. There is an air of silence and serenity everywhere.

I had experienced it many times as I find the early morning hours are the best to go for a solo photography ride.

It is the start of summer and the palm trees are getting ready to ripen!  A closer look and I good witness the reminiscence of a Premier League that might have happened yesterday evening!. Have a closer look and many of you might recollect and remember your childhood days when you played cricket with the leaf base of coconut tree!.

Clicking along, I continued my ride. Another weekend, another opportunity to continue my passion not missing an opportunity to serve the community.

Adnoc set to move towards corporate culture with new regime

Posted on Updated on

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company’s chief executive, Sultan Al Jaber, has revamped Adnoc’s leadership and announced a new corporate regime, as a further signal that he intends to move quickly to transform corporate culture at the state oil company.

Changes at the top include Abdulaziz Abdulla Alhajri, who has been named director of Adnoc’s refining and petrochemicals division, moving from chief executive of Borouge, Adnoc’s joint venture petrochemicals company with Austria’s Borealis.

Omar Suwaina Al Suwaidi has been tapped to lead the gas division, moving from his role as deputy director of planning and strategy.

The Adnoc directors are the top executive level under the chief executive and the two new appointments join previously announced director of sales and marketing, Abdulla Salem Al Dhaheri, and director of exploration and production, Abdul Munim Saif Al Kindy.

Adnoc also named new chiefs for six of its 18 operating units, including Adco and Adma-Opco, the joint ventures in charge of the bulk of the emirate’s oil output.

“These new appointments will help enhance our focus on the key pillars of performance, profitability, efficiency and people,” said Mr Al Jaber, referring to the “strategic pillars” he set out soon after being named Adnoc’s chief executive in January.

The newly-appointed executives all come from within Adnoc and the widespread change is aimed at elevating a generation of technocrats who have proved themselves running other companies or projects within the group.

At the same time, Mr Al Jaber has told his top executives that there will be a new corporate regime that will require them to operate as “active asset managers”, which will entail holding the operating company chiefs to account for meeting specific operational and financial targets.

The model will be akin to that used by private sector outfits like GE, or indeed some of the major international oil companies, whereby operating company chiefs are called upon to deliver regular reports on progress against a set of “key performance indicators” to ensure goals are met on a tight schedule.

The new leadership “will play a fundamental role in executing on our strategic imperatives of creating a more profitable upstream business and a more valuable downstream business, ensuring more gas supply, and developing world-class talent”, Mr Al Jaber said, adding that safety and operational integrity of the oil and gasfields will remain key criteria.

The new regime is a departure from Adnoc’s traditional “cash call” approach, where the operating companies ran budgets more like government bureaucracies. At the operating level, Saif Ahmed Al Ghafli is named chief of Adco, the main onshore oil company, which has a target of increasing output from 1.6 million barrels per day at the end of 2014 to 1.8 million bpd by about 2018.

Mr Al Ghafli is considered to have done a good job bringing online last year the huge US$10 billion Shah sour gasfield project in his previous job as chief of Al Hosn, the joint venture with Occidental Petroleum.

Shah ramped up gas production last year to target output of 1 billion standard cubic feet per day, about half of which goes into the gas grid to meet 10 per cent of the UAE’s current demand. It also broke new ground in terms of dealing with a world-record level of hydrogen sulphide, the by-product of which is marketable sulphur.

Yasser Saeed Al Mazrouei is named the new chief of Adma-Opco, which runs a large portion of the offshore oil production, with partners BP, Total and Jodco, which hold a collective 40 per cent of the concession. Together with Zadco, the joint venture with ExxonMobil and Jodco, the overall offshore target is to increase output from 1.4 million bpd to 1.7 million bpd.

While most of the executives being replaced were at or past retirement age, Adnoc executives said the CEO wanted to move quickly to demonstrate to the company’s nearly 50,000 employees that he is serious about implementing a “performance” culture, with promotion driven by results.

“It is a huge cultural shift,” said an Adnoc senior executive, who did not wish to be named. “It’s not like it is going to work overnight, where people say, ‘boom, I’m suddenly thinking that way’. But it should be very clear now that Adnoc’s top executives are going to focus on performance.”

Adnoc executives made it clear that the changes are not a precursor to plans for any privatisation, in the manner that Saudi Arabia’s leaders have put a partial sale of state oil company Aramco on the table.

“That will never happen,” said an insider, although he would not rule out a spinoff of some downstream joint ventures at some point.

But the main objective of the moves is to create a culture at Abu Dhabi’s biggest employer which drives innovation, entrepreneurship and other skills that the country has been looking to foster for decades, with varying success.

The more demanding regime, it is hoped, will create business-minded leaders who can thrive both within Adnoc as well as fostering young talent who can branch off and start new businesses outside the organisation.

Changes at Adnoc:

  • Abdulaziz Abdulla Alhajri, director of refining and petrochemicals directorate.

Previously, Mr Alhajri was chief executive of Borouge, the Adnoc petrochemicals joint venture with Borealis, itself an Ipic/OMV joint venture.

  • Omar Suwaina Al Suwaidi, director gas management directorate.

Former deputy director of strategy & coordination, and formally in the exploration and development directorate, responsible for Adco operations and developments.

  • Abdulla Salem Al Dhaheri, sales and marketing directorate, previously announced.
  • Abdul Munim Saif Al Kindy, director of exploration development and production, previously announced.

New CEO appointments:

  • Ali Khalifa Al Shamsi, CEO of Yahsat joint venture with China National Petroleum Corp.

Previously director of strategy & coordination for Adnoc.

  • Saif Sultan Al Nasseri, CEO Gasco

Previously gas processing director for Adnoc. Mr Al Nasseri has been with Adnoc for almost 20 years, holding a variety of key management roles.

  • Saif Ahmed Al Ghafli, CEO of Adco

Previously chief executive, Abu Dhabi Gas Development Company Limited (Al Hosn gas).

  • Ahmed Omar Abdulla, CEO of Borouge

Formerly chief operating officer of Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company (Takreer).

  • Mansour Mohamed Al Mehairbi, CEO of Al Hosn Gas

Previously senior vice president for projects at Al Hosn Gas.

  • Yasser Saeed Al Mazrouei, CEO of Adma-Opco

Formerly deputy director of E&P within the exploration and production directorate Adnoc.
