Border Tree – and road perils on Tamilnadu Kerala border

Posted on Updated on

Border tree – photo by Rajashree Menon
This is a tree which is situated on the National Highway road and at the border connecting Kerala and Tamilnadu through Coimbatore. For several years it has been lying in the same state, no leaves, no changes, just the same as it is. In front of it, a half constructed bridge too. Just like the tree, it has also been there as a memorial. I do not know what is the problem, or who is behind the agony of the half constructed road and bridge in this sector. One could drive down from Bengaluru to the border of Coimbatore within 6 hours by road. But, one need lot of patience and luck to get from there to Trichur, at least within 5 – 6 hours of road time.
As a regular, who love to drive from Bengaluru to Kerala, I feel the second sector mentioned above, one need lot of luck to drive and get through.
Trucks, especially tankers, oil and gas, are impatient after a long wait. Include the long bodied heavy trailers who transport automobiles. They drive hard and rash, just to cover the long wait at the Tamilnadu Keala border. Result, many times, is an accident.
God bless all those who drive on this road.

For residents of Kadugodi – the way to bus stand is still down and under

Posted on Updated on

It is a very sad scene each time I pass by this major point of Whitefield. The railway crossing connecting Kadugodi population and the Bus stand is causing lot of difficulties for all. At any given time there will be a goods train waiting, with endless carriages, waiting for signal. It makes life difficult for all age a difficult process to cross over. It is extremely difficult in the morning as one rush to the bus stand to reach office or school. Children and aged have to squeeze down or walk all the way till the end and then cross over. At night time, there is absolutely no light making it all the more difficult.

Like the endless carriages parked, the story continues for Kadugodi residents……
Authorities have so far kept a golden silence on the issue of providing an easy passage for the users of the bus station or even the railway station. It is one of the major traffic point connecting residents from various point of Kadugodi and nearby villages and residential areas to the city.
Who cares, if common man suffers? The city is one of the highest tax collecting and revenue generating in India. But, when it comes to necessary infrastructure, it is way behind…
Authorities, please consider the difficulties of Kadugodi residents…. At least, please show kindness to instruct the Railway authorities and the Engine drivers to park the trains before the railway gate, if the possibility of building a bridge is an impossible task by you.

Road Safety Campaign – Measures to initiate safe transport of material on city roads

Posted on Updated on

On a recent visit to Bangalore, I happened to notice trucks transporting sand and other construction materials without appropriate covering of the containers.

It is causing spill on the road, and also dangerous to vehicles following behind.

A request was submitted to Bangalore Traffic Police to review, observe and consider appropriate guidelines and actions to restrict this.

In return, BTP, have come back informing that they have noted my request and will inform field staff to take necessary action, as appropriate.

Road Safety Campaign – Measures to initiate clear display of number plates

Posted on Updated on

On a recent trip to Bangalore, I happened to notice that there are many trucks on the Bangalore city roads and highways connecting to it fitted with a Crash Guard at the back, which hide the number plate. Even from close distance, one can never find out the registration number of these vehicles.

I was thinking of a scenario in which these trucks causing an accident. It will be impossible to track them easily.

If not already in place, we should have clear guidelines to display the registration number of the vehicles in a clearly visible manner.

A request was submitted to Bangalore Traffic Police to review, observe and consider appropriate guidelines and actions to restrict this.

In return, BTP, have come back informing that they have noted my request and will inform field staff to take necessary action, as appropriate.

Kadugodi Whitefield Overbridge – This is how we cross it – A shame for modern Bangalore

What the Kadugodi, Whitfield residents have to say on this:
The plight of people is well known. Every resident of kadugodi is experiencing the difficulty in crossing the railway line. I have taken up through media.
Mr. Balasubramaniam
Its more painful for sick , old people who want to cross the railway track when so many goods trains are parked ( not sure if it is deliberately) just near the drop gates..  I cross the tracks daily and am grieved too ,  to see the condition of the people… This is absolutely callous behaviour of the authorities.. If they cant construct a walk over bridge , they can at least direct the drivers to park the trains in such a way that it does not bother the citizens more..
Mr. Shuja Wani
The people travelling from/to Kadugodi bus station are facing insurmountable difficulties.  Parking of two goods trains across the railway gate, fencing the entry gate from Kadugodi end, digging of drain restricting people crossing over, darkness in the night are putting people to risk of life and property while crossing the railway gate.
Problem is greater for women carrying children, old/handicapped/sick people and those carrying luggage. This needs to be addressed quickly by railways by providing a foot over bridge.  After all people live on this side of railway gate while the bus station is placed at the other end which has no habitation at all.  Every one will agree that it is impractical for pedestrians to cross over by using the fly over, which has become dangerous even for motorists due to darkness and displaced road dividers.
Secondly, BMTC could be approched to extend the bus routes, more particularly volvos, to this side of railway gate.  There are several buildings and residential complexes coming up on this side and hence we could have a collective efforts.  The corporator and Legislator/ MP of this area should help us in this regard.  Could we build a movement?

Mr. Balasubramaniam

I think the priority should be for railway over bridge which affects every one and critical.

Ajiyos Yohannan

I support the cause for pedestrian bridge next to the flyover.
Mr. Raghuram Ch
We can perhaps submit a memorandum to the Whitefield Railway Station Master with an agreement from the Legislator……If someone has any contacts with the Railway Ministry or with Ms. Mamata Banerjee (now that she is the CM of WB), then that should also be looked at.

e Nidhi SREE Nidhi – Christmas and New Year Gifts getting ready for children

It’s Friday, and time to open the cloth packets I received from my friends and colleagues to be gifted to the children of e Nidhi SREE Nidhi Programme. I am thrilled, excellent materials; some of them included even brand new clothes and intellectual toys too for complementing my efforts. Tears rolled when I saw those new ones. A friend has offered as many ream of new clothes for their uniforms. God, you have been merciful and kind to support our thoughts and initiatives. My duty is simple now, to iron them once more, roll them neatly and include them in the large box.
Some more gift parcels, including toys are awaited during the coming days. Two more efforts are underway for them and as and when it is achieved, I will share it with you all.
Repeat my call, if you have any good quality, used clothes for children aged 4 to 18 years, white dresses for BOYS, do share them with me quickly so that I can include your gift in my New Year parcel for those blessed children. If you have good quality drawing books, pencils, and tools for crafts, please include them too. There are some talented children in them who may love receiving them.

True regards,

Ramesh Menon

Progress report – week 3 – Computer Coaching Class to children at SAI ASHRAYADHAM, Kadugodi, Whitefield, Bengaluru

Progress report – week 3 – Computer Coaching Class to children at SAI ASHRAYADHAM, Kadugodi, Whitefield, Bengaluru

If you ask me, what is the most happiest thing happening, it is our visit to this small unit each week, or whenever I am there. The children are so happy to learn Computer, Mathematics and English. The glow on their innocent face, when they see us, it’s difficult to express in words. One has to experience.
Week 3, we had three new additional tutors and volunteers – Mahesh Nair, Mr. Srivastava and their little son…. Mr. Srivastava assisted us in cleaning up the computer hard disks, whereas Mahesh assisted in giving lessons. But, the most important member our little master Srivastava was the one who gave life to the entire afternoon.
The children were very happy to see him and straightaway brought a cricket bat and ball and they started playing. It was a divine experience.
Om Sai Ram.
